Jig Away the Donkey Album LUGCD964

Gabriel McArdle on vocals and concertina, Martin Quinn on accordion and Gerry O’Connor on fiddle.
"Jig Away the Donkey" brings together three soloists presenting the Music and Song of South Ulster in its most natural form. The music is full of lift and drive; the songs exude depth and humour. The album celebrates the rich musical heritage from Ireland’s drumlin region of hills and lakes, stretching from north Louth to south Donegal, drawing on the rich store of music and song from Armagh, Monaghan, Cavan and Fermanagh.
Musicians from a previous generation using the same title for two different dance tunes gave rise to the album title. Single jigs, highlands, song tunes and ballads reflect the diverse and varied musical nature of this rich and relatively unexplored part of Ireland. Many tunes are drawn from unpublished sources and long forgotten recordings of local musicians, re-imagined and interpreted by three of the region's finest performers, playing in modern times but managing to maintain the vibrant charm and fluency of the past masters.
Suitable for house concerts, Arts Council tours, Traditional Arts events , workshops, festivals, etc.
